(COLORADO SPRINGS)—The Pikes Peak Workforce Center (PPWFC) said as the local labor market remains tight, and employers are seeking to hire people,
PPWFC is hosting a Community & Veterans Job Fair on Thursday, Nov. 2.
The event is open to the general public as well as transitioning military, Guard and Reserve members, veterans and their spouses and family members.
“We look forward to having more than 140 employers from a variety of industries at the Community & Veterans Job Fair,” said Becca Tonn, Communications Manager at PPWFC.
Attendees are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resume.
PPFWC recommends those interested create an account beforehand at Connecting Colorado‘s website for express access on the day of the fair.

Aspen Mine Center draws up life plan with a smile
A whirlwind of mercy greets those who seek help at the Aspen Mine Center in Cripple Creek. While most walk in with mixed emotions – reluctance countered by resolve – the entry is a step into a productive future.
Oh, it might not be easy, not at all, but designing a life plan to include budgeting, education, shelter, job searching, counseling, and generally re-grouping, never is.
In a world that may seem hostile at times, the staff shares a sense of community with clients, as each is a local resident. “Our clients have multiple needs,” said Shanon Conley, adult and family advocacy manager.
The pathway to the future begins with an action plan to identify and understand the needs, said Katelyn Brown, Medicaid coordinator who works by contract with Colorado Community Health Alliance.
The merchants of mercy at the Aspen Mine Center design a life plan for those who seek help from the nonprofit organization in Cripple Creek.
These 3 States Have the Most People Working From Home
Now that many people have had the opportunity to work remotely post-pandemic, they have noticed more benefits than they thought were possible. And those perks extended well beyond fighting morning traffic.
“Remote working is so popular here because we’re a state that really enjoys its flexibility, that really enjoys its free time. We’re not a New York, Boston or Philadelphia where people pretty much live for their jobs. Out here, people really live for their lives.” said Traci Marques, executive director and CEO of the Pikes Peak Workforce Center on KRDO.

Colorado Springs employers learn how to add more people with disabilities in workplace
Those with disabilities twice likely to be unemployed in Colorado
COLORADO SPRINGS—About 40 employers gathered Tuesday to learn
how make their workplaces more welcoming for people with disabilities. State and city leaders say they want to level the playing field for these workers as they search for jobs.
“It’s something that we must change, everybody in this room must help us change that,” said Lloyd Lewis, of the speakers.
Lewis is the president and CEO of the Arc Thrift Stores. He said they currently have 500 employees with disabilities.
Employers came together to learn how to make their workplaces more welcoming for people with disabilities. State and city leaders say they want to level the playing field for these workers as they search for jobs.

These are the top five jobs in the Pikes Peak region that do not require a college degree
COLORADO SPRINGS—According to the Pikes Peak Workforce Center, there are job openings in many industries in Southern Colorado, including blue collar jobs.
Blue collar refers to careers surrounding manual labor or skilled trades such as construction, maintenance and manufacturing.
In 2023 from May through July, the top five job postings in construction were the following:
- electricians
- heating and air conditioning mechanics
- carpenters
- plumbers
- painters
There are job openings in almost every industry in Colorado Springs, many do not require a college degree. So where are the jobs? And just how much do they pay?

Paid culinary training program in Colorado Springs helping ease labor shortage for local restaurants
COLORADO SPRINGS —Shovel Ready at City Aud, an innovative, advanced hospitality and culinary apprenticeship program,
launched in February at The Well food hall and is off to a great start.
It’s the first educational program to be launched as part of the Community Cultural Collective workforce program, which is an extension of The Community Cultural Collective at the City Auditorium. According to Madison Ward, CCC workforce navigator, with the completion of the fifth cohort (class or group of students), there has been an 84% placement rate.

EL PASO & TELLER COUNTY — Researchers say the process of finding and landing a new job is becoming more grueling.
It’s taking an average of 44 days right now to hire a new employee for most companies according to a report by Global Talent Trends.
We know these fraudsters are already crafty, but when you give them access to AI technology they can create an attractive fake job post in a matter of seconds. They’ll even design it specifically for you, hoping to get your attention, your information, and even your money.
”It’s already exhausting, but then to incorporate that additional layer of am I going to get scammed? Just trying to get a job it’s horrifying,” said Krista Gustafson, who is actively searching for jobs right now in the Pikes Peak Region.

Local workforce center offers funding for businesses to train staff
EL PASO & TELLER COUNTY — The Pikes Peak Workforce Center has $100,000 in Employee Development Funds to award to businesses and non-profits in El Paso and Teller County.
This funding will specifically go to businesses and non-profits looking to train or “upskill” current employees.
The Employee Development Funds are made possible by the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), in order to help businesses “retain a skilled workforce or avert the need for layoffs.”

Preference for the funding is going to be given to “in-demand” industries, such as:
- manufacturing,
- healthcare,
- information technology,
- hospitality,
- tourism and

Army Veteran Wins News 5 Jefferson Award for helping veterans transition to civilian life
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — If you spend any time around retired Army Col. Nanette Brédé Mueller and her therapy dog, Disney, you know she’s good at making connections.
And if you’re transitioning out of the military, she’ll probably ask you, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
“The first thing she said to me was ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ and when you’re 55 years old, at that time, that’s kind of a daunting question to ask,” said Paul Price.
Retired Air Force Col. Paul Price met Brédé Mueller at her volunteer-led weeklong workshop called Prep Connect 360.

The Pikes Peak Workforce center connects job-seekers to jobs in El Paso and Teller County. Additional services include hiring events, job fairs, career planning services and job training workshops.
PPWFC is a resource for employed and unemployed individuals. In 2018, its economic impact was $126.8 million and in 2017 it helped fill 6,057 new jobs in El Paso County.

More than 300 residents earn GED at Community Partnership
In Teller County, more than 300 residents have earned GED certificates since 2006, the year the Community Partnership Family Resource Center initiated the program.
“One of the goals of the board is to avoid childhood maltreatment,” said Katie Conlin, operations manager/GED coordinator. “The more importance parents place on education, the more likely they are going to pass it to their children.”
“You are a lot happier if you have employment because you have more options,” Conlin said. “If you are happy at work, you’re happier at home.”

U.S Border Patrol attracts recruits at job fair
Clarke Becker spent the day talking to employers and job seekers at the Pikes Peak Workforce Center’s Job Fair May 2 at the Ute Pass Cultural Center in Woodland Park.
Becker was recently appointed as the center’s one-stop operator.
With a variety of vendors seeking employees, Teller County has plenty of job opportunities, most of them with benefits.

Clarke Becker returns to Teller County
In a lifetime of public service, Clarke Becker has come full circle. Former Woodland Park mayor and executive director of the Teller County Economic Development Council, Becker combines government with a commercial beat.
After serving as mayor, Becker was elected twice as a Teller County commissioner, followed by several years as director of Colorado Rural Development Council, retiring last year.
Unwilling to hang it all up, Becker accepted a position as a one-stop operator for the Pikes Peak Workforce Center, which puts him back in Teller County.

$1.5 million RISE grant fuels career paths
In what Mary Bielz called a “ shot in the dark,” the Cripple Creek/Victor School District nonetheless
won a $1.5 million RISE – Resilience, Response, Innovation and Student Equity Fund — grant in 2021.
Speaking to a group of community stakeholders March 20, Bielz highlighted the need to continue the momentum created by the grant, which sunsets in September.

held an informational expo at Rampart High School to help guide students into arts and design career fields.

COS City Auditorium receiving $1.1M grant to help community workforce
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) –
A $1.1 million grant was recently awarded to the Colorado Springs Community Cultural Collective (CSCCC) for their for Shovel Ready Culinary Capstone and a media arts workforce development program.
“We are incredibly lucky to have been awarded the Innovation Grant from the Pikes Peak Workforce that’s launching all of these workforce initiatives,” explained Madison Ward, navigator for CSCCC workforce programs.
