ABOUT THE GOVERNOR'S SUMMER JOB HUNT
Has it Been Successful?
More than 500,000 young people have found summer employment since the program began in 1981. The program serves as a national model, receiving Presidential Awards in 1983 and 1993, and has been replicated in several cities across the United States.
Who is Eligible?
Young adults between, 16 through 24, are eligible to participate in the Summer Job Hunt. Economic circumstances are not a consideration for program registrants. Proof of age and citizenship are required. This is a free referral service to young adults and employers. Other employment and educational opportunities may be available for qualified youth.
What Types of Positions are Available?
Employers throughout Colorado provide a diverse selection of jobs including clerical, customer service, labor, and sales. There are both full- and part-time jobs available for youth with wages ranging from $8.00 to more than $11.00 an hour.
How are Young Adults and Jobs Matched?
All youth must first create an account in Connecting Colorado by CLICKING HERE. The Governor’s Summer Job Hunt (GSJH) staff at PPWFC will then assist the youth with essential job search activities such as developing a résumé, interview skills training, clear guidance about professional conduct expectations while on the job, and other job readiness tools.
Once youth have demonstrated their readiness for job placement, the GSJH staff will attempt to match the youth’s skills and interests with an available job opening. When an appropriate match is found, the counselor will refer the youth directly to the hiring employer. As always, the final hiring decision is made by the employer.
The Governor's Summer Job Hunt Program is sponsored by the Governor's Office, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, and the Colorado Workforce Centers.
